This paper presents a concept, its implementation, and evaluation for a cloud-based, blended learning lab (CBLL) for PLC education. The CBLL combines training on a real on-site PLC with technology models from the cloud. The tech-nology models are loaded into the learner’s web browser from the cloud where they are run. The models are linked directly with the inputs and outputs of the PLC via a CloudIO adapter to enable a PLC program to control the technology models. Management of the technology models is performed via an IIoT platform where model use is offered as a service. The learner can use the models on-site without any licenses or software being installed.
